Microphone & a Mechanics occurs as British rock/pop band started around 1985 as a side-project of Mike Rutherford, a foundation member of Genesis. These are better known for its hit songs "Silent Running", "All I Need Is a Miracle", "Taken In", & "The Living Years".

A original lineup involved Paul Carrack and the late Paul Young (formerly of chart band Sad Café and not to be confused by owning a solo singer Paul Young).

Microphone + A Mechanics inherit its have by using its star eponymic debut highlighting Rutherford's innovative guitar operate & a vocal talents of the deuce Pauls. A class action's albums were commonly freed between Genesis albums, by using Genesis singer/drummer Phil Collins with an active solo career of his have. A Residing Years was a height of their career, using a #1 title track written just about a dying of Rutherford's father. Word of Mouth followed inside 1991 by using well less commercial & critical profits.

Fallowing the hiatus as a consequence Young's demise, a band reformed within 2004 as Mike & the Mechanics featuring Paul Carrack.
